Once posted in the Sandhills, you will thank your good luck! So much is close by for the rugged outdoorsman, the family outing, the retiree! North Carolina is divided into three distinct parts, each with its own unique beauty. In fact, what makes the state a leading tourist destination are the many diverse recreational opportunities & scenic beauty.
The
mounta
ins in the west offer spectacular views of hardwood forests stretching
across slopes and valleys. In the fall, brilliant shades of crimson,
orange and gold paint the landscape, making “leaf peeping” a major autumn
activity. Winter brings opportunities for skiing and snowboarding. Spring finds
the mountains awash in rhododendron blooms. And in summer, the mountains
offer a nice escape from the heat. White water sporting opportunities are
widely available. Many also enjoy planning a mountain trip to
the many parks, historic sites, vineyards, apple orchards,
& waterfalls in the Blue Ridge at this time of year.
Ft Bragg is located in the Piedmont area of North Carolina, making it ideally situated with a mild climate. Lots of fun things to do are close to home, and the link at left will get you started. Covering nearly half North Carolina’s area, the Piedmont region in the center of the state stretches from the foothills at the mountains to the “fall line” where the rivers have their last rapids before reaching the coast. Also the Piedmont encompasses most of the State’s larger cities, nestled amidst rolling hillsides and green pastures. Our region has four seasons that easily blend into another. An Indian Summer precludes a crisp autumn air. Our mild winters encourage outdoor activities as long as the daylight lasts. Azaleas and dogwoods announce spring with a lengthy fragrant color display that lasts for months. Summer finds the days sun-filled and long, tempting you to take advantage of very ray of light. If you enjoy golf, horseback riding, bicycle racing, fishing, or panning for gold, you are in the right place!
The eastern part of the state, the North Carolina Coast is
home to pristine beaches, large sand dunes, wetlands and rivers. Fall continues
warm temperatures as the days grow shorter. The mild temperatures of winter
encourage walking by the shore or inlet. Visitors across the state
and beyond flock to the NC coast for some of the cleanest and uncrowned beaches
in the east. Do take advantage for family vacations and outdoor
recreation. Swimming, some surfing, boating and salt or freshwater fishing
can be enjoyed while taking in spectacular views, whether the Atlantic Ocean, a
sound or one of our numerous waterways. The Outer Banks are home to Kitty Hawk visitor’s center,
and several of the east coast's largest Marine aquariums.
Over the next five years Ft. Bragg will see additional gains of over
20,000 military and civilian personnel and their families, while the BRAC actions at Pope AFB will result in a direct job
loss estimated at 3,500 military personnel. We are getting ready for
you! The Sandhills are planning and preparing to maximize the benefits to you,
and our region.
